Speaker: Jake Farmer, Dark Hour Haunted House & Effects To Effects
In the special effects world there seems to be a lot of attention on makeup and scenic design, so much so that there have been entire TV shows devoted to these subjects. But those are just pieces of the puzzle, and they won’t come close to having the impact they’re capable of if they aren’t in the right lighting environment. Lighting can be the sole reason why a set, an animatronic, or an actor isn’t effective! In this seminar we will cover a wide range of examples and techniques for effectively telling your story and bringing your attraction to life. Lighting is often the unsung hero of a good attraction, so don’t leave it until the last minute. Learn how to make lighting part of your overall attraction design! This fun seminar is sure to give anyone, whether new to lighting or a seasoned LD, a few light bulb moments (pun intended) on how to improve their attraction with only lighting changes.

Speakers: Ted Dougherty, Lunar Visions and David Enloe, CC Productions
Interactivity can be a positive attribute for a haunted attraction. However, heavy theatricality, pulsed experiences and technology such as laser guns or virtual reality potentially inflate guest wait times - these aspects slow the flow of guest traffic which can result in long lines. From home haunts to theme parks, if your attraction contains elements that slow/stop throughput, properly addressing guest flow is crucial to all operators. Receive valuable information from experts who have tackled guest throughput challenges while successfully maintaining story, intensity and thrills.
Speaker Bio: Ted Dougherty is a writer, producer and director having worked with Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights, Knott's Scary Farm, Hollow Studios and Cedar Fair, including directing and co-writing Fear VR, the first 4-D virtual reality horror experience at a major theme park. Prior to authoring the book, Knott's Halloween Haunt: A Picture History, the first comprehensive history of Knott's Scary Farm, Ted scared thousands as a "slider" monster in Knott's famous Ghost Town Scare Zone. As a historian, lecturer and creator of the macabre, Ted uncovers innovative ways to terrorize through themed entertainment.
Speaker Bio: David Enloe has worked in the haunted attraction industry beginning in 1981 with the famous "Scream in the Dark" nonprofit attraction. By 1998, David created and operated the Chamber of Chills attraction featured on the Travel Channel's first America's Scariest Haunted Attractions program. Nicole holds a degree in marketing from Columbia College and has over 20 years of experience in the performing arts and entertainment industry; almost half of this time has been spent in her role as Production Director for Frightmare Farms, one of the most critically acclaimed haunted attractions in Upstate New York. Nicole introduced the escape room industry to the region by utilizing existing space at the previously-existing haunted attraction. At that time, Nicole was one of very few pioneers attempting this technique.

Escape the Estate, with its theatrically-detailed sets, was a runaway hit. Within a matter of weeks, the Frightmare Farms location had sold out its available bookings for their entire season. Fueled by this success, Nicole and her team opened a second location in just six months, crafting whole-new escape rooms in a shopping mall. Since then she has helped with games ranging from 3 minutes to Mega- games lasting a few hours.

Most recently, Escape the Estate is yet again capturing regional attention with a cutting edge immersive experience Museum of Intrigue. Launched in late 2017, Museum of Intrigue, located in Destiny USA in Syracuse, NY has been coined “a playground for the mind”.

Because of her work, Nicole has caught the attention of numerous media outlets in the area. In December 2015, she was named one of the “9 Most Creative People in Central New York.” Soon after, she was featured in an article about women in business, discussing her contributions to the often male-dominated industries of escape rooms and haunted attractions. Nicole has presented at educational institutions, universities, and conferences on topics ranging from young entrepreneurship to surviving a zombie outbreak.

Nicole juggles many professional roles on a daily basis. Her favorite role is wife to her uber supportive husband, Jeremy and mom to her quick witted, very busy, young twin boys!

    Speaker Bio:

Nicole Ginsburg is the creator and co-owner of Escape the Estate, Central New York’s first “escape room”.
